Club Race Nights

These are run by the club. Everyone in the club is able to participate from the Development Squad to the National Squad. For younger swimmers these nights are an excellent introduction to racing, where coaches are at hand to offer advice and there is a "no-pressure" fun atmosphere.

Club racing begins with a short warm-up. There are normally at least 3 strokes swum each club night and distances are up to the individual. Generally Development Squad swimmers should race 25m or 50m, Junior Squad should race 50m or 100m, and State/National swimmers should be racing 100m in each stroke and 200 Fs, IM, 400 Fs when available.

There is no need to nominate for club nights but to be eligible to compete at the end of season Club Championships a swimmer must attend a minimum of 4 club nights during the year. End of year awards for age champion, most improved, encouragement, etc, are presented at the end of season awards night.

Encouragement or Novice Meets

These are locally hosted meets and are the first level of inter-club competition. Swimmers must fill in an entry form which can be found on the hosting clubs website and pay a small entry fee per event. Swimmers do not have to be registered with Swimming Victoria e.g. recreational swimmers. Swimmers who have won medals at a State level are usually not eligible to compete so this is an ideal stepping stone for most Development and some Junior Squad swimmers to gain valuable competition experience. These meets do not have any qualification standards and swim times gained from these meets can not be used as qualifying times for State Championships or other qualifying interclub meets.
